Vet Visit Results

We had a rather busy and fairly expensive evening tonight at the vet's with some of our rattie friends. Read on for details, donations to help cover the surgeries that were performed are greatly appreciated.

Remember Mack? He went in to have his tail looked at. If you look in this picture just to the right of his nose you'll see a black band on his tail. His tail now stops right about this black band. The vet said the injury could have come from a bite or perhaps from ringtail but that it should be removed since the lower part of the tail was dying anyways. While we were at the vet I noticed a fresh injury on Mack caused by one of his other three cagemates; the skin covering one testicle was flayed open. Inspection by the vet determined it should heal on its own since it had already started to so we have him on meds to cut down infection possibility.

Caroline went in for some major surgery. Mid-March we had noticed the beginnings of a tumor or two so she went in to have it looked at. Surgery was postponed until tonight. Honestly, it would not have surprised me if we had to euthanize her due to the number and size of her tumors at this point but fortune smiled on her and they were all able to be removed. She has sutures from underarm all the way back to her back leg. Now, hopefully, she will not chew them all out this evening and instead allow her healing process to begin. Hopefully she appreciates this and doesn't attack and bite the fingers quite as much in the future.

Queenie went along for moral support but she also received a spay vaccine while there...hopefully to prevent any mammary tumors like Caroline's. Queenie is likely a permanent resident here due to her semi-cage aggressiveness.
