Ways to get involved

First of all, thank you so much for even clicking this link in the first place! There are a few ways to get involved, and if you think of additional ways that we did not, let us know!

Share some of your time! Perhaps you are undecided about owning rats? Or perhaps there are things preventing you from doing so right now? Feel free to visit, and give of your time! We'll be happy to share our knowledge if you so desire. You can help out with cage maintenance if you'd like, or just help with socialization. It can be a one-time visit or something you do more often. Obviously visiting us will take a bit of planning to ensure we will actually be here at the time.

Help us get the word out! Maybe you hear of someone considering some sort of small animal for a pet, or maybe someone is actively looking for pet rats. Send them our way! Also, it helps in general to get the word out about how wonderful rats are as pets. Sharing posts / liking content also helps!

Share your creativity! Do you like to sew or create things with wood? We can always use new hammocks, cage liners and other crafted hides as well as wooden toys & climbs. There are links to sites with plans under the Helpful Links tab. This is something you could help with even if you're not in Pennsylvania!

Help with finances! Quite predictably, one of our largest needs is financial. Except for what donations we receive, this is one family doing their best to "Save the Rats." Hey we understand, there are endless causes that also need financial support and "Save the Rats" may not even be on your list at all. Hopefully though, you are convinced that we care about their welfare and by supporting us humans we then support the rats.

What are donations used for? The biggest recurring expenses are their medical fund and food. Beyond those, since rats are chewers there are always things to replace like cage liners, toys, chews, etc. Printing costs of the various flyers are another expense. Non-recurring expenses may be things like replacing a broken food dish, or some leaky water bottles. There is a cage that could be replaced and heck, maybe we could fit a few more in here if we remove some of this human furniture blocking things.

If you'd prefer, gift cards from Amazon, Petco or Vistaprint would be beneficial. Recurring donations through Paypal, even if they are $5, $10 or $20 a month would help a ton!

Recognition: Unless you communicate that you do not wish to be celebrated as a donor, please allow us the honor of recognizing your contributions, no matter their size. If it is a time contribution, it is more likely that will be recognized in our blog as an appreciation post.
