What else should I feed my rats?
Rats benefit greatly from the antioxidants and vitamins found in fresh fruits and vegetables. Their diet should consist of approximately 80% lab blocks and 20% fruits and vegetables, assuming you are feeding lab blocks. A serving of fruits would be half the size of their head; a serving of vegetables would be about the full size of their head. One serving of fruits and two servings of vegetables per day would be appropriate.
What types of vegetables should I feed?
With a few exceptions or cautions you can feed any vegetable. See the Unsafe Foods tab for those exceptions.
Vegetables of particular value for rats include cooked (or canned) sweet potato, cooked (or canned) dry beans (pinto, kidney, soy, garbanzo, etc.), broccoli, kale, and bok choy.
Frozen vegetables are fine as long as they are not freezer burned.
