I'm allergic to cats and dogs, but I am really lonely and would love a social pet. I've heard rats are loving and friendly. Are they a good choice with someone who is allergic (mostly) to cats?

P.S. Ron and Filch are adorable. Also, what books/resources would you suggest for care and health of rats?

for some info. I mainly use the Rat Health Care booklet or more often now www.ratguide.com though it can be a bit technical.

You might read over the information at http://www.ratfanclub.org/allergy.html and see if that is useful. I'm certain there are people more sensitive to rats but the most we've seen has been skin irritations so I wouldn't call us experienced in the matter.
