Melanie is a very young girl now discovering that humans are nice!
Update Jan. 27: Melanie is like a typical girl and loves to come out, explore, and get into trouble. Once she is outside her cage she is just fine with humans and can be held and petted. Her challenge at this point is intermittent cage aggression. Sometimes you'll reach your hand in to get her and she's fine. Other times she will bite fingers or the underside of your arm. The key with her is awareness and taking care to remove her from the cage away from her teeth, just in case. Once she's out, no problems. Of course it is hoped she will improve over time, but that's where she is right now.
Update Feb. 22: Melanie is responding very well to extra treating and attention. She now carefully removes treats from between fingertips and her only biting episode was once where she misjudged the treat's location. She no longer nips at hands and fingers in the cage. We would still suggestion caution especially when in new housing or situations but she has not shown any cage aggression in quite some time now.
Update Mar. 26: The treating has certainly helped. Caution is still in order if you surprise her or if she is unsure of your intentions. She is a much calmer girl.
