Syrup has been with us for almost 2 years -- he was born sometime in January 2013 and we got him in March. Syrup was a snugly squish boy and he was much freer with hand kisses than his brother Echo. The two boys regularly drew people to them on the site, we received more inquiries about them than any other rats we have had, it's just too bad both of them had such poor health. I could never adopt them out to anyone not willing to give them frequent care, it just wouldn't be fair to them or the adopters.
Syrup being such a fat & lazy boy, it was not easy to tell he was a bit lethargic these last couple days until it became more apparent last night. We started him on meds (yet again) and made sure he was comfortable. This morning he was a limp rag doll and horribly congested. As soon as I got up I gave him a couple inject-able meds and started up the oxygen machine for him. Sadly, it was finally time and he left us a few hours later. He is now frolicking again with his brother Echo, I'm sure!
Orbit, on the left, was one of the founding members of our rescue along with her sister Nuzzle. This was November 2012.
Orbit had some surgery to remove tumors which grew back. Then we tried an experimental injection to shrink the new ones, which possibly slowed them down but did not stop them. She then developed multiple tumors on both sides, more than could be removed considering her age. When one became necrotic and she chewed herself open, it was time. I miss her greatly.
Little Pikachu was our first rat adopted out in 2014 on January 10th. She spent some wonderful time with her family but sadly lost a battle with a respiratory infection in late 2014.
Isis, shown here in a picture the adopter took, was adopted out June 2, along with Pippa and Shadow. Isis had a long health battle in the beginning but her strength pulled her through and now she's part of a loving family.
And Cocoa was our last rat adopted in 2014 on December 28th. She is off to experience many adventures with her two new sisters!
Thank You To All Adopters and Supporters!
Think of the difference you all have made, it's likely the majority of these rats would have met a quick end via a reptile if not for you!
Phillip, neutered boy, is off to enjoy his life with his new girlfriend, Penny! Congratulations!
Finally gathered up the rest of what I could find from submitted pictures and posted them. Stop over and take a look!
Cocoa is off to grand adventure with her new family! She joins Toy who was adopted from us in August and Rattata. Congratulations!
These will primarily be posted by Chris, a rat lover for nearly 40 years.
